The Program

CV's program model is holistic and built on a sustained student/advisor relationship; students and their families receive support throughout every step of the college admissions and financial aid process. Youth join College Visions in the spring of 11th grade and remain in the program until they enter college 12-16 months later. As members of a college-bound community, students actively engage in College Vision's benchmark-driven curriculum. They participate in a series of two-hour group workshops and have regular one-on-one coaching sessions with a college advisor.

Through this process, College Visions helps students to:

  • Identify characteristics of their ideal school
  • Visit campuses during multiple day-long trips throughout New England
  • Research colleges using guides and the internet
  • Demystify college options
  • Write and edit multiple drafts of essays, résumés, and applications
  • Register for the SAT and ACT
  • Navigate the financial aid system
  • Choose a college after acceptances have arrived

The program provides additional critical supports to students and their families along the way, including:

  • College planning and financial aid workshops for students and their families
  • Fee waivers for the SAT, the ACT, and college applications
  • Regular one-on-one counseling sessions
  • Mini-grants for students to cover costs such as transportation, books, and supplies
  • An e-bulletin listing information of interest such as local college fairs
